Academic writing skills are essential for higher education in a future driven by information, technology, and innovation. Academic writing requires students to be analytic, think critically and understand diverse worldviews. On a macro level, critical thinking is vital for the evolution of science, medicine, innovation, and humanity. On a micro level, they enhance one’s problem-solving skill set, position one for career success, lead to better decision-making, create better citizens, and promote curiosity. This course teaches students how to think, not what to think, by equipping them with the tools to critically analyze a subject, object, and theme. 

Learning Objectives: 

• Learn to write at the level required for higher education. 

• Enhance students’ critical and analytical thinking skills. 

• Learn to avoid confirmation bias. 

• Develop an argument. 

• Organize ideas coherently in an academic manner. 

• Have a clear understanding of audience and types of writing. 

• Learn to write clearly. 

• Learn to cite and avoid plagiarism. 

• Be prepared for university level work. 

Learn and practice, through examples and exercises, all the components required to operate as an advocate. Learn to speak as an advocate by  delivering a strong, clear, and effective public speech including: a  clear hook,  inflection, non-verbal communication, pacing, eye contact, hand gestures, and a call to action.

• Learn to develop your own Advocacy Action Plan and the 6 steps required to effectively deliver it as a speech for your final assignment.

This course has weekly homework and public speaking assignments.

  Public speaking can seem scary to many students, but it does not have to feel that way! Students can tolerate and even enjoy public speaking when they learn it in a fun and engaging way. Students must learn public speaking because it is useful in many aspects of their lives. This course is designed to give students opportunities to speak in front of their peers in a variety of ways, making them more comfortable with presenting in front of a group of people and helping them become more confident with public speaking. It also offers opportunities for students to be creative, practice their writing skills, and work on being active listeners. Students will receive respectful, helpful feedback and learn to provide feedback to their peers.

•Learn how to speak and present in public. 

• Improve delivery. 

• Learn tools to maintain composure in social situations. 

• Develop skills to interact with new people. 

• Build leadership skills. 

• Increase confidence 

• Hone delivery skills such as (eye contact, inflection, pace, gestures, body language, tone, diction) 

• Confidence to interact with new people and build social networks 

• Learn to stand out from the crowd. 

 We have been conducting anti-bullying workshops in schools and community centres in Toronto. 

We provide these workshops online for students globally. 

During the pandemic, we served students online and continue to do so, providing access to students to learn about why bullying s bad and how to respond and help others.

  Learning Objectives:

· Equip children with knowledge and skills for dealing with bullying. 

· Educate them about prejudice and discrimination, diversity and its relationship to bullying.

· Build community awareness and engagement.

Length: Workshops can run from 2 -3 hours (with a  break) depending on students and grade.  Content will vary. 

Critical reading and creative Writing equips students with essential skills that nurture both the left side of the brain - the critical - as well as the right side of the brain - the creative. The course tasks students with the need to examine, evaluate, and deconstruct a variety of texts, including fiction, poetry, non-fiction, music, and essays. The knowledge gained will then be applied to crafting their own work within the genre of their choice. Students will be given a methodical framework they will use to assess the works that will serve to heighten and sharpen their overall analytical abilities. In a competitive world, students need these skills.

• Engage analytically and critically with a range of literary and media texts 

• Enables one to craft their own arguments 

• Make judgments and interpretations of the ideas, arguments, and claims of others presented in the texts that they read.
